Winter getaways meant a few rituals- the smell of sarson ke khet, the feeling of cold wind flapping on our faces, the taste of chhole kulche and the sound of Ginni Maami’s uproarious laughter. And, all this was to be upstaged by a humble drink called ‘Kanji’ made oh-so-lovingly every winter, year after year. There was something so visceral about our love for Kanji, perhaps it was all the soulful effort that went into making it. The right portions of black carrots, mustard, spices and condiments in a giant scarlet glass jar left in the mild winter sun to ferment for days, as we got our share of natural Vitamin D sprawling on a khaat (day bed). The added boondi on top was Ginni Maami’s special touch which she believed was her own invention as a garnish and no one has ever chosen to correct her to this day so Ssshhhh!
Traditionally made at home during winters, it is a tangy and sweet elixir of health that comes from fermented black carrots, mustard seeds, and mirchi powder and packs a punch
It’s made from the goodness of nutritious 99% real black carrots. Yeah, black carrots exist and they are amazing
Rich in antioxidants, black carrots naturally help detoxify the body
With the popularity of Kombucha in all its millennial glory, it has been proven that Kanji can be enjoyed whenever, wherever, at any time of the year
With no preservatives or added colours, this should be your healthy drink of choice. Say Haanji to Kanji
