Our Story

Bean to brew
Our coffee story starts not in some warehouse but the farms. Our team of coffee experts travels the world to sample and source some of the best coffee there is, directly from the plantations where they are grown and processed. Back home, our coffee masters then roast these beans to perfection and grind them to-order, using state-of-the-art equipment, to ensure vibrant and intense flavors of the bean permeate into every cup brewed.
Where the experience is concerned, we settle for, and therefore promise, nothing less than exceptional. Because no two coffees are ever alike, and we strive to bring out the best, most unique qualities in our beans via masterful roasting. Often, we blend beans with various natural ingredients too, for a truly delicious cup peaking with a rich sum of flavors and fragrances. Raise such a cup to your lips, take in its aroma and quietly treat yourself to a sip – you will never look at coffee the same way again.
Experience this and much more with a first-of-its-kind curated selection of coffees at TGL. Our range spans the length of the earth as well the flavor spectrum, offering you the choicest picks of the best, most delicious, love-inducing, faith-reinstilling coffee there is in this world – from EL Salvador to Ethiopia, Indonesia to India.

Sourced from the best plantations globally

The range includes only the highest quality 100% Arabica beans from the best placed coffee plantations the world over, including Ethiopian Yirgachaffe, Colombian Excelso, El Salvador Santa Cristina, Peruvian Organic Coffee, Brazilian Santos and coffee beans from award winning plantations in India.

Expertly Roasted Beans

The best tasting coffee is made from a batch of recently roasted beans – the flavors are freshly extracted and hence, in prime form. All of TGL’s Indian blends are freshly roasted every two weeks – in micro-roasting small batches to ensure the perfect roast is done for each type of coffee bean to bring out the best flavor profile.

Freshly Ground and Customised

Most store-bought coffee is roasted many moons ago, and ground to a generic, industrial-standard. In a sharp contrast, we prefer and encourage grinding freshly roasted beans to-order, and to the drinker’s preferred way of brewing. This way, the coffee is exposed to minimal oxidative degradation and retains flavor better.

Description

South Indian coffee is known for its well-structured and deep earthy flavors – enjoyable plain as well as milked-down. And here’s the perfect example one such filter coffee blend, well-layered and refreshing – the kind that will make every other mass-produced blend to fall to its knees and beg for forgiveness.

Experience

Taste: Tart, bright, and pleasantly clayey punctuated by notes of raw red fruit. The cup is full-bodied, well-rounded and ample in the mouth, but also has a buoyant quality that’s almost rare in filter coffee blends these days. It’s intense but just enough to not overwhelm. It finishes on an earthy, nutty note but the memory of the flavors lingers long.

Aroma: Intense clayey notes with hints of mineral and some fruit leather at the back.

Bhuman Dani, Co-founder

TGL Co. co-founder Bhuman Dani (an MBA from INSEAD and ex-BCG London), walked into the East India Company store in London one day, little did he know that it would change his life. With no background in the world of speciality teas, this experience opened his mind to brews, blends and blades. But this appetiser only fuelled his thirst for more knowledge in this space. So he began his apprenticeship with Jane Pettigrew, one of the most renowned master blenders of tea in the world and learnt about teas, origins and influence of botanicals in creating the perfect blend.

Shariq Ashraf, Co-founder

At the same time, in another corner of the world, Shariq Ashraf, (an MBA from Oxford and ex-BCG Melbourne) a self-professed tea aficionado was inspired by another tea company. While travelling through Argentina, he came across “Tealosophy”. Its founder, Inés Berton, inspired Shariq with her enviable tea knowledge and he began to work towards bringing this spectacular range of speciality teas to India.

Ayesha Takia & Farhan Azmi, Co-founders

With a burning passion for hospitality and innovation, Farhan is the force behind some of the most revered restaurants in Mumbai – Cafe Basilico & Koyla. He has also had a professed love for teas through his experience with Chai Koffi, a chain that aimed at recreating the glorious Irani tea culture in India. Along with his wife Ayesha Takia Azmi, an incredibly successful Bollywood superstar and a self-professed health enthusiast (being a vegan herself), Farhan has a shared passion to infuse tea with modernity, health and unique flavours in a way that has never been seen before. And with that vision, they became proud investors of TGL Co. and are headed to brew their way into the hearts of millions in India.

Describe your products in three words.

Bespoke Handcrafted Luxury

How did you come up with the idea for this product?

To us, coffee is more than just about the beans. It is as much about the place where the trees grow, the people who grow them, treat them, their stories and traditions, and the love and passion with which they transform this seemingly simple crop from fresh fruit to brewable bean. And therefore, to us, coffee is as much as a product of intent as it is of nature. And when it comes to coffee perfection, craft truly makes all the difference that separates great coffee from just coffee.

What makes your product special?

1. Sourced from the best plantations
Some of the best coffee in the world grows in high appellation regions – as high as 2000 ft above media sea level – and in places with rich tree shade and a desirable microclimate. These are the kinds of coffee that we seek out for our tightly curated collection. Our range includes the highest quality Arabica beans from the best placed coffee plantations world over, including Ethiopian Yirgachaffe, Colombian Excelso, El Salvador Santa Cristina, Peruvian Organic Coffee, Brazilian Santos and coffee from award-winning coffee estates in India.

2. Expertly roasted beans
When you buy coffee off-the shelf, it is likely you are buying something roasted many months ago and hence, stale. The truth is that the best tasting coffee is the one that is made from a batch of recently roasted beans – the flavors are freshly extracted and hence, in prime form. TGL Indian coffees are roasted once every two weeks, and in small lots, to ensure the flavors are crisp, bright and intense, and for the good haul.

3. Ground to-order
Pre-ground coffee rarely produces a cup that can match the complexity of the flavors and aromas that seep from a freshly ground lot. This is because from the moment the beans are ground, air starts to take effect.
